Elliot High’s Collin Brownell made quite a splash at the CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at Clovis West High in Fresno.
Brownell, a sophomore, went from 463.45 points at the Sac-Joaquin Section championships to a 496.40 at the state championships for a fourth-place finish, trailing Andrew Harness of Villa Park (640.85), Joshua Thai of Alhambra (543.55) and Raphael Tourette of Cupertino (519.95).
In the girls diving competition, Lodi’s Madison Liu scored 412.65 for a 15th-place finish.
On the swimming side, Lodi’s Madeline Woznick was the only local athlete to make it past the preliminaries, taking 16th in the 50-yard freestyle at 23.87 seconds after she was 11th in the prelims at 23.55.
Woznick added a 20th-place finish in the 100 freestyle at 51.68 seconds, and Audrey Moore added a 29th-place finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:53.79.
Aidan Scott competed in two events for the Lodi boys, taking 30th in the 200 individual medley at 1:54.61 and 31st in the 100 backstroke at 51.90.
Sac-Joaquin Section golf
The Lodi High boys golf team placed seventh as a team with a 419 at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament on Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.
Jake Aberle led the Flames with a 77, followed by Ethan Korock with a 78, Jack LeBaron with an 85, Ryan Chraska with an 88, Trevor Topham with a 90 and Rhett Hill with a 99.
Jesuit (378) won the tournament and will move on to the NorCal Tournament, along with Whitney (379) and Davis Sr. (384). Individually, Granite Bay’s Dylan McDermott (70), Inderkum’s Jacob Westberg (71), Oakdale’s Ryan Meyer (72) and Rio American’s Jason McElroy (73) will move on to the NorCal tournament.
