Sydney Means was chosen by Tokay High School to be the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution El Toyon Chapter Good Citizen Award, for demonstrating the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. She was nominated by Mr. Tracy, a history teacher at Tokay.
One student from each school is chosen for this award out of 14 participating high schools.
Then these students participate in the scholarship portion of the award by writing an essay written in one sitting without any reference materials or assistance and supervised by an administrator.
Sydney’s essay was selected by independent judges as the first-place winner. She read the essay to the audience of the DAR Tea, where they recognized all of the students who received the Good Citizen Awards.
Sydney received a scholarship check in the amount of $300.
