AAUW hosts speaker from Citizens Climate Lobby

Jennifer Wood was the featured speaker for the AAUW (American Association of University Women) January meeting. Wood is a volunteer with Citizens Climate Lobby, (CCL) an organization that has 200 chapters across the country.

Wikipedia describes the Citizens’ Climate Lobby as “an international grassroots environmental group that trains and supports volunteers to build relationships with their members of Congress in order to influence climate policy.”

Wood outlined some local impacts of climate change. These included: higher temperatures that are making droughts worse; precipitation in the form of rain rather than snow; faster snow melts than previously; more evaporation from reservoirs; and an increasing number of forest fires. The goal of the CCL is to build bipartisan support to put a price on carbon. More information can be found at www.CitizensClimateLobby.org.
