Liberty Oaks Pony Club just had its first meeting of 2015; new year, new DC (adult leader), new members and new shirts! Returning C2 member Rachel Ravera helped out the new DC by teaching an unmounted lesson on longeing the horse safely and correctly according to United States Pony Club standards.
Riding lessons were continued by Liz Jenner who graciously allows the club to have their meetings at her facility Gateway Farm. With Liz's suggestions and Fred Fickert's expertise and the help of many pony club parents, Gateway Farm's cross country course has a water hazard, new jumps and others being planned. Several members are using her school horses for their pony club mounts.
Members have been and will be attending clinics to help with preparations for certification exams. Some will be traveling to Petaluma for an upcoming Horse Management Clinic. Veterinarians will be there to talk with them and upper level members will have opportunities to practice their teaching skills on a variety of topics. Parents are encouraged to attend.
In August, the Western Region Championships will be held at the Woodside Horse Park so eligible members will be preparing themselves and their horses to attend qualifying rallys. Dressage, Show jumping, Cross Country Horse Trials and Tetrathalon will be some of the rallys offered by Sierra Pacific and Mid Cal Regional clubs. In addition to pony club events, members will be participating in local English, Dressage, show jumping and Cross Country Horse Trials and maybe throwing in a trail ride for fun!
Young riders, or those who want to ride and learn about horses and their care, can contact Laura Weisman, DC, at 209-339-0893 or Andy Ramos, Joint DC, at 209-759-9700. Their meetings are held at Gateway Farm, 18025 E. Collier Road, Acampo, on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month.
