City Council gives final approval to district map, election sequencing

The Lodi City Council gave final approval to an ordinance establishing a by-district election system and adopting a district voting map and election sequence during its meeting Wednesday night.

The city made the decision to switch to a district election system after receiving a letter from the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund last October, claiming that the city’s at-large system violated the California Voting Rights Act by diluting the Latino vote.
