Looking ahead to the 2004 Lodi Grape Festival

Plans for the 2004 Lodi Grape Festival are well under way and change is in the air.

Under the theme "It's a Jungle Out There," the Festival will have lots of new entertainment and features. One of the biggest new attractions will be "Mad Science: The Magic of the Movies." Located in Jackson Hall and sponsored by Diede Construction, the exhibition will include five daily stage shows and will give a light hearted and fascinating look at the tricks Hollywood uses in making movies.

"We felt that we needed to breathe new life into the Festival and we are working hard to do so," said Festival manager Mark Armstrong. "We have upgraded our entertainment level in every area."

The Budweiser Amphitheater entertainment is set with the following performers:

Thursday, Sept. 16 -- Super Diamond (A Tribute to Neil Diamond) 7 & 9 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 17 -- Rain, A Beatles Tribute, 7 & 9 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 18 -- Blues Legend Coco Montoya

Sunday, Sept. 19 -- Freddy Fender, 6:30 p.m.

On the Geweke Stage

Thursday, Sept. 16 -- Suitcase Full of Blues (A Blues Brothers Tribute)

Friday, Sept. 17 -- Mumbo Gumbo

Saturday, Sept. 18 -- Mofo Party Band

Sunday, Sept. 19 -- Fiesta Mexicana

The main gate stage, sponsored by Bank of Lodi, will have a totally different look with new landscaping and a new brick and concrete seating area. "We are trying to set up a cabaret type atmosphere," Armstrong stated. During the day there will be a variety of entertainment such as jugglers and magicians. And, as the day turns into evening, there will be dance music ranging from Dixieland to Jazz and Latin. The goal is to have something for everyone.

Another exciting change will be the all new Pier 413 area featuring various performers, covered seating, wine sales and more. Along with the new additions, the mainstays such as grape stomping, grape murals, carnival, food and more will be on hand.

The Lodi Grape Festival will take place Sept. 16-19. For more information call (209) 369-2771 or visit or website at www.grapefestival.com.
