Street Faire has city buzzing twice a year

Your buzzing alarm goes off.

What time is it?

You glance at your watch, discovering it is 4 a.m.

Time to start shopping?

If today is the Lodi Street Faire, and you are serious about your browsing, the answer may be yes.

Antsy shoppers are often out with the set-up crews, shopping at the faire in the wee hours of the morning with flashlights in hand to get the best merchandise, said Bob Andosca of the Lodi District Chamber of Commerce.

It just goes to show the extremes that the pros will go at to get what they want.

And what they want ranges from arts and crafts to antiques and even commercial items.

The Lodi Street Faire started 15 years ago.

In 1992, it grew into a full-fledged faire with 700 vendors and a crowd of 30,000.

Local businesses that participate in the faire consider it to be one of their most profitable days during the entire year.

The faire starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. and, with the help of volunteers and members of the community, it is cleaned up and put away by 8 p.m.

The faire is held the first Sunday in May and October of each year.

It extends roughly from Lodi Avenue to Lockeford Street, and from Church to School streets.
