Music added to Farmers Market

Want to find farm-fresh produce, food and entertainment at one location in Lodi?

Try downtown Lodi on Thursday nights, between mid-June and September.

Local farmers and merchants sell everything from Bing cherries to artworks and craft items at the Farmers Market and Festival, which starts June 22.

It is scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to dusk on Pine and School streets.

Between 50 and 70 vendors are expected this year.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are the event’s main attraction.

Organizers plan to add live music to this year’s mix, said Lew Van Buskirk, the Downtown Lodi Business Partnership’s executive director.

Ballet performances, martial arts and cooking demonstrations are also planned.

Average attendance is 2,000 to 2,500 visitors.

One night last year, it reached 3,500.

“We’re pretty proud of what we’ve done so far,” Van Buskirk said.
