A quick bite or gourmet dining, Lodi has it all You havent visited Lodi until youve walked the charming brick-lined sidewalks of downtown. There, youll find many eateries and coffee shops willing and ready to satiate your thirst and appetite. The difficult part is deciding on one restaurant. The choices are plentiful in the six-block area. From King Tsins Chinese cuisine to Mazatlans Mexican fare, downtown noshing offers something for everyones palate. Cottage Bakery and Rotisserie, family-owned and operated since 1954, is noted for fine sit-down dining, brickoven pizza, fresh European-style bread, rotisserie-cooked meats and mouth-watering entrees. If youre in a hurry, try the plump sandwiches and tasty salads from the take-out deli. Hazels, known for scoozie, a gorgonzola-stuffed pocket bread appetizer rubbed with raw garlic, has a relaxing and stylish bar, fully stocked with liquor and an impressive wine list. Executive chef Matt Rodda offers delightful meals that include fresh fish daily, filet mignon with port wine demi glaze and grilled New Zealand rack of lamb. Movie star-inspired sandwiches (the Lucille Ball made with ham is a favorite) and Hollywood memorabilia await at Legends Bar and Restaurant on Elm Street. The daily lunch special runs from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. every day. For a south-of-the-border fix, choose among Angelos, Mazatlan, Sinaloa, El Pajaro and Taqueria Jalisco. Each restaurant offers a unique interpretation of Mexican cooking and dining. Coffee devotees will find comfort at Mocha My Day or Tillies where specialty coffee is in abundance, along with muffins, bagels, fruit and pastries. Both places are perfect for relaxing and reading. Tea drinkers will find a broad selection of their favorite beverage at Tillies, served steeping in a teapot. Satisfy your sweet tooth at Blewett Ice Cream, Honey Treat Yogurt or Cottage Bakery, where a 30-foot bakery case holds some of the best baked goods in the Central Valley. Health-conscious folks will delight in Sheris Sonshine store where the shelves are filled with everything natural. Owner Sheri Senft offers quick, healthy treats for the lunchtime crowd. The fruit whip is very popular, Senft said, as are the protein and snack bars and the frozen entrees, which warm up fast in Senfts microwave. If nothing else, theres always Americas standard bearer for quick eating: McDonalds home of consistently crispy fries and child-pleasing kid meals.
