Around Lodi for the business traveler

The business traveler should be pleasantly surprised by the comforts, amenities and attractions of the Lodi area.

It’s mainly a matter of knowing where to look, said Jeri Hansen of the Lodi Conference and Visitors Bureau.

For a place to stay, Lodi has three major hotels:

Best Western Royal Host, 710 S. Cherokee Lane. The recently remodeled hotel has 48 rooms, a corporate rate of $55, and free continental breakfasts. A meeting room, which can accommodate up to 40, rents for $80 a day. Phone: 369-8484.

Comfort Inn, 118 N. Cherokee Lane, has 54 rooms, a corporate rate of $57 per night, and free continental breakfasts. A meeting room, which can accommodate 25, rents for $75 a day. Phone: 367-4848.

Holiday Inn Express, 1140 S. Cherokee Lane, has 95 rooms and a corporate rate of $66 for a choice of king, queen or double beds. Rooms feature refrigerators and microwave ovens. They have a free continental breakfast and a meeting room which accommodates up to 40. Phone: 334-6422.

For the traveler on a budget, there’s the Budget Inn, 917 S. Cherokee Lane. The inn has 20 rooms, a corporate rate of $32 to $38 per night, and smoking and nonsmoking rooms. Phone: 369-1091.

So you’ve got a room. What else is there for a business traveler in Lodi?

Plenty.

In the morning, start the day with a little java at one of Lodi’s myriad coffee shops downtown.

Mocha My Day, Cottage Bakery, Laverne’s and Lodi Coffee Club are all located within a five-block area centered around School Street.

For a place to relax in the evening, Lodi has several options.

Those who enjoy a good smoke will appreciate Stogies Cigar Lounge, 230 W. Pine St.

An unusual ambiance is offered by Legends, 27 W. Elm St., where guests can sip cocktails amid classic Americana and memorabilia.

Hazel’s restaurant, 28 S. School St., offers a relaxed, upscale environment for a friendly cocktail with a business associate. Hazel’s is also a fine choice for dinner — try the Scoozi.

Wine & Roses Country Inn and Restaurant, 2505 W. Turner Road, is also a good choice for entertaining clients.

Cactus Mexican Dining, 18961 N. Lower Sacramento Road, Woodbridge, also comes highly recommended by Hansen.

Those in need of convenient dry cleaning services might choose Guild Cleaners, which has two locations, free pick-up and delivery; or Keri’s Kleaners, which offers same-day service.The number for Guild is 368-2414 or 368-2755. Keri’s is 367-3600.

Got some free time? Golf lovers can hit a bucket of balls at the Lodi Golf Center, 2800 E. Harney Lane. From 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., a bucket of 100 balls costs just $6. Phone: 333-1108.

For those hankering for a real game, Micke Grove Golf Links, 11401 N. Micke Grove Road, is open from 6 a.m. until dark. Weekday rates for the 18-hole course range from $10 to $18, depending on the time of day. Weekends range from $10 to $27. Phone: 369-4410.
