• What a horribly understated comment. I have been in some of these classrooms with more than 40 children in them. There is a single teacher, 3 or 4 parents of the most unruly students, the occasional psychiatrist, the part timer principals and chaos. I do not see how any child can ever learn in this environment. In fact, they don't. Yet somehow, the gigantic administrative staff continues to grow - and get raises for manipulation of facts. And the parents are the worst you can imagine! You people need to wake up - these poorly educated kids will become our worst nightmare. These poor teachers are just about at their wits end. It resembles bad day care more than school. Yet there is money for all manner of specialists and NOW a new educational curriculum that is guaranteed to make it worse. Insanity supported by a bunch of fools.

• It is clear that government sponsored organizations have become self-serving. We need a complete purge to rid ourselves of people who protect their job first and their constituents last. Livermore wineries have full blown restaurants and it has simply increased the tax base and made the area wonderful for lunch or dinner. Plus look at Mondavi - they sell sandwiches and cheese and you can go there and have a pretty good lunch if you want. I can buy drinks or bottled water at Peirano. Someone tell me what threat these are to the agricultural area? I wish someone would sell a sandwich to help some of these tasters sober up! Make no mistake, this is about money and has nothing to do with agriculture. Those jerks at the farm bureau and some of the other organizations around here have a "Holier than Thou" attitude just like so many other agency acolytes.

Ignition interlocks: devices that are installed in the vehicles of people who have been convicted of driving while impaired. They prevent operation of the vehicle by anyone with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above a specified safe level (usually 0.02% – 0.04%). When installed, interlocks are associated with about a 70% reduction in arrest rates for impaired driving. Enjoy that!

• Good grief .. this is a BLOG not a Novel! Can't you guys simply say what you mean briefly? The laws for drinkers are corrupt and you will NEVER get them all off the road unless you install a device in the car to detect it. Why waste my hard earned money on this sort of coffee break? Get caught, now you have to have a detector - they make 'em! Doesn't cost me any money.

• It is about Power. The power to just stop you and decide if you are someone who they can arrest. Sounds like some other countries I can think of. Any way you slice it, it takes money out of someone's pocket and puts it in the hands of the government. And TAXES are paying for it even if some poor soul gets arrested. That is a LOSE LOSE if you ask me. Don't want to get hit by a drunk? Pay Attention when you drive. How is it I have driven all these years avoiding more than a dozen (I am sure) drunks? My dad used to say, " the only direction you cannot predict a drunk is when they are coming from the sky."

• Well Said! It is time for a new political party, one that represents a government of the people and for the people. Currently both parties are power mad and cannot be trusted. It is shockingly true they have lost sight of the purpose of the original American government and become perverted in their positions from city councils and school boards right up to the president of the USA himself. I am surprised you did not mention how We the People had to bail out a bunch of Wall Street speculators. What part of that fiasco am I responsible for and why do I have to suffer the consequences?

• How does it yield money? Traffic Fines.. court costs... lawyers ... judges...etc.. But I fail to see how it is preventing people from driving while intoxicated. If you look at the DUI arrest statistics, there is basically no change. So the question is, why are we doing this when property crime is rising? It seems to me that money should go to patrolling my neighborhood, not a coffee stop for some checkpoint. If I need Police, are they going to be busy chatting with some driver while looking for that one percent of people who may or may not be too drunk to drive?
