The Central Pacific Railroad gave birth to Lodi in the summer of 1869. Beginning as a simple rail stop with a couple merchants’ simple wood buildings and a few scattered homestead farmers, Lodi grew to become a bustling city of more than 75,000 with a thriving and increasingly famous grape and wine industry.

You just gotta love and appreciate our elected leaders for some great TV. Every day they come up with yet another "you can't make up this kinda stuff." We learned that shortly after the Benghazi massacre, the president was on his way to a fundraiser in Vegas. Good to know what he thinks is important. Don't blame him. Best to get as far away as you can when the alleged lies and cover-ups start.

Fire departments throughout California have been expecting an active wildfire season this year following an extremely dry winter. Statewide it's proven true, and local departments have sent strike teams to help fight flames in Northern and Southern California much earlier than usual.

Sandra Monroe, of Stockton, said she was pleased that the Avenue of the Vines contributes money it raises to the Emergency Food and Family Services serving San Joaquin County. Monroe, who had just completed the half-marathon on Woodbridge Road on Sunday, May 19, 2013, said you never know whether race organizers in other communities actually contirbute money to the charitble causes they cite.
