The Diocese of Stockton announced Wednesday that it has reached a $1.75 million negotiated settlement with attorneys for a man who was a victim of sexual abuse by notorious pedophile priest Oliver O’Grady in the 1980s. The abuse occurred in Stockton, but Sacred Heart Parish in Turlock also was named as a defendant, leading to the filing of the lawsuit in Stanislaus County.

The Lodi Unified School District has agreed to a $4.75 million settlement in the case of a special-needs student who was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a former bus driver.

It took only about an hour Wednesday for a San Joaquin County jury to hold Richard Dale Evans and the Lodi Unified School District civilly liable for the sexual molestation of a special-needs student on a school bus.

Former Lockeford priest Michael Kelly says that he did not sexually abuse a 12-year-old former altar boy in about 2000.
"I am completely and totally innocent of these allegations; they are utterly untrue," Kelly said in an email to the News-Sentinel from his native Ireland. "Never, ever, did I do anything of the sort to the plaintiff, or to anyone else, for that matter."

A Tracy man who was 13 years old at the time said he punched Father Michael Kelly in the face and apparently broke his jaw after Kelly allegedly tickled him too hard, according to testimony Thursday in San Joaquin County Superior Court.

Judge Bob McNatt said on Monday that he will decide in about two
weeks which is more important — Father Michael Kelly's privacy or
the public's right to know that he is an accused pedophile.
Kelly, a popular priest at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in
Lockeford, is the subject of a civil lawsuit filed in 2008, in
which a man now 37 years old claims that Kelly sexually abused him
in the 1980s. Kelly was a priest at Church of the Annunciation in
Stockton when the alleged abuse took place. The plaintiff's name
has not been disclosed.
