Your recent story about teacher layoffs in Lodi Unified School
District was a frightening reality check for me as a parent. The
article pointed out that "the district is facing a minimum $15
million deficit heading into next school year. The figure could be
larger if voters statewide fail to pass a tax revenue extension,
according to Superintendent Cathy Nichols-Washer." My children
attend school in the Lodi elementary school district. I can only
imagine how that will hurt my children's academic achievement. Will
they have a shorter school year? Will they be offered motivating
programs like music or P.E.? Will they have to learn in overcrowded
classrooms? Will they have opportunity to use the library?
