Students from Lodi High School participated in the 46th annual California State SkillsUSA Championships held in San Diego on April 4 through 7, and took medals in a number of categories.

Joshua Patterson, 18, still gets nervous, even after two years of drafting competitions. The feeling kicked in a few days before the event and built up through the trip to San Diego, where six Lodi High School students were competing in the California State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championship, a drafting skills competition.

On Jan. 28, Delta College will be hosting the first level of
competition for the 2012 SkillsUSA Championships, with the Region 5
Competition being held at 8 a.m., inside Atherton Auditorium.
Admission is free.

Kameron Smith ranks 13th in the state in drafting. The Lodi High
School senior recently took first place in two industrial arts
competitions and is headed to a state competition this month.

Lodi High School's Speech and Debate Team returned Monday from
the state tournament in Bakersfield with two students going as far
as the semi-finals. There were a total of eight school
participants.

charter school won't be allowed to open as planned, and one of the
district's oldest schools won't close.
