J.R. Majid and his brother, Al, cut the ceremonial ribbon at Brewster’s restaurant at 4th and B streets in Galt on Monday, June 10, 2013. The restaurant opened under the Majids’ ownership in May 2012, but they waited 13 months to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony. They live in Lathrop, and have been in the restaurant business for 33 years in San Leandro. Brewster’s is located in one of Galt’s oldest buildings, just east of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The two-story 19th-century building was a general store and post office in its early days. Meals are served downstairs and on the outdoor patio.

Brian King, entertainment director at Brewster’s restaurant in Galt’s historic area, seems to be a jack-of-all-trades. He’s a disc jockey, but he’s also an ordained minister. “I can marry you and be your DJ,” King said. “I’ll typically write the vows unless (the couple) wants to write them themselves.” King moved to Galt in November. The restaurant opened under the ownership of brothers J.R. and Al Majid in May 2012, but they waited 13 months to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, June 10, 2013.
