What a sorry state America is in when voters can’t trust elected officials to keep their campaign promises. A Gallup poll released earlier this week showed that Congress has reached a new low, gaining the approval of just 9 percent of Americans. This breaks last year’s dismal 10 percent, the previous record.

At the ripe old age of 25, Ricky Gill raised some eyebrows in 2012 by not only running for Congress, but giving three-term incumbent Jerry McNerney, D-Stockton, all he could handle in his bid for re-election.

Tokay High School graduate Ricky Gill announced his candidacy
for Congress before about 100 people on Tuesday morning just south
of Lodi Memorial Hospital, where he was born.
Gill, who turned 24 earlier this month, will run in what is now
the 11th Congressional District, whose seat is held by Rep. Jerry
McNerney, D-Pleasanton. The congressional boundaries may change due
to reapportionment, and political followers believe that the East
Bay portion of the 11th District may be in a different district
from San Joaquin County.
