Skiers are smiling. The long-awaited rain that turned up on
Friday means Kirkwood Mountain resort expects two to three feet of
dense, wet snowfall over the weekend.
Mike Heath, vacation coordinator, said the resort's higher
elevation, based at 7,800 feet, means any snow that falls will
stick around. Despite the promising conditions, snowblowing
machines will still be working overnight to mix Mother Nature's
bounty with enough man made snow to keep the trails open.

A 34-year-old Lodi man with a passion for scuba diving and
fishing died along with a 37-year-old Stockton man in a scuba
diving accident in the old Jamestown mine off Harvard Mine Road in
Tuolumne County, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Wilson.
The Lodi man, identified by deputies as David Allen Dedic, was
known as Dale Dedic, according to a co-worker at San Joaquin
Drywall in Stockton, and Russ Faught, a friend of Dedic.

The Woodbridge Irrigation District is came one step closer to
starting construction on its new office complex, directors said at
a board meeting Thursday morning. Andy Christensen, general manager
of the district, said they need to have an architect finalize plans
for the building and respond to comments from the City of Lodi on
how their water and sewer lines will operate. Once those two steps
are completed, they will be able to obtain a building permit.

In his recent report, Kenneth R. Feinberg, the Obama
administration's pay czar, revealed that 17 financial companies
paid out 2009 bonuses totaling $1.58 billion. These banks had
accepted billions in taxpayer aid, supposedly to keep them afloat
