What an insult! I have subscribed to the Lodi News-Sentinel for more than 18 years in an effort to help keep our Sentinel from becoming a thing of the past. Like everyone else, I can get my news online or on my smart phone. But I don’t want to lose the delight of opening up my door in the morning and having my newspaper with my cup of coffee, savoring every satisfying moment of knowing I am doing good for my community newspaper.

Theron R. Lillie was a man of many interests, talents and troubles. He was part of Lodi’s history for probably fewer than 20 years, but he had an impact on a rapidly changing time. He set athletic records, attained a measure of national fame and operated a number of different businesses with his brother that helped usher Lodi into a modern world with telephones and automobiles. But his life ended in tragedy.

Cuffed jeans. Classic sneakers. Graphic tees. These are a staple of the 2014 fall outfits at Lodi’s high schools. Dress codes aside, students do their best to show off their style through the clothes they wear every day. Where does inspiration come from? Older siblings, famous singers and YouTube stars.

The independently owned Lodi News-Sentinel has been published continuously since 1881. I've been reading the News-Sentinel, again continuously, since I came to town in 1986 and also after I moved to Pennsylvania in 2008. In 2001, the News-Sentinel published my first opinion column, which is a regular weekly feature.

I had promised reviews of “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and “The
Sitter” this week, but those plans were altered by the fact that my
online source for such matters had listed an incorrect wide release
date for the former, and the nation’s critics and moviegoing public
have convinced me that I should skip the latter. So we are left
with “The Descendants,” now playing in general release after
generating incredible word of mouth during its run on the art-house
circuit. I found it to be consistently engaging yet slightly
disappointing given the buzz, but your mileage may vary.

understand it, but it is a growing buzz-word in the travel

If, like me, you're traveling this holiday season, you're
probably busy. In my world, that means I'm doing a ton of baking
and trying to finish Christmas shopping while also working and
doing laundry (which means driving to the stupid Laundromat) and
cleaning house and all the other things that keep me occuppied. I'm
even running errands on my lunch breaks this week.
