    Thursday, May 23, 2013 12:03 am

A look at the key known facts about the Wednesday attack in south London, when two men hacked another to death near military barracks.

  2. article The extremists are at war, not the rest of us

    Thursday, May 23, 2013 12:00 am

In regards to William Van Amber Fields’ letter titled “Christians and Muslims are at war, whether we admit it or not,” it is simply not the case. We are not at war with any religion. We are dealing with criminals who use religious or political extremism as an excuse to engage in terrorism, whether it was Osama bin Laden or Timothy McVeigh. Good people, whether Christians, Jews, Muslims, agnostics or atheists, are allies in getting rid of this scourge.

  3. article Man shot to death while questioned in Boston probe

    Wednesday, May 22, 2013 11:15 am

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A Chechen immigrant was shot to death by authorities while being questioned in the Boston Marathon bombing investigation early Wednesday after he lunged at an FBI agent with a knife, officials said.

  4. article Christians and Muslims are at war, whether we admit it or not

    Saturday, May 11, 2013 12:00 am

During a recent BBC News interview, a retired U.S. general was asked if he felt the U.S. is still at war and with whom. His answer hurt: "Yes, and it's a war we, our kids and grandkids will not see the end of."

  5. article Guantanamo Bay isn’t any worse than prisons in Iran

  8. article More government spending will not lead us out of a bad economy

    Tuesday, March 19, 2013 12:00 am

In the Lodi News-Sentinel on March 13, a front-page headline read "Applying for Obama health plan not easy." Many have commented on the coming disaster of "Obamacare," so I'll let this news stand alone and go to other news recently.

article Muslim mom Veronica Aziz hopes to make Eid al-Fitr a school holiday

    Saturday, February 16, 2013 12:00 am

A Lodi mom is starting a petition to add Eid al-Fitr to California’s list of holidays that would automatically excuse a child from school. The 24-hour Muslim holiday falls after 30 days of fasting during daylight to observe Ramadan each year, and this year will fall on Aug. 7 and 8 — in the first week of the 2013-14 school year.

article Equating Jesus to Muhammad is ‘blasphemy’

    Saturday, December 22, 2012 12:00 am

On Dec. 15, on the Religion page of the Saturday edition of the News-Sentinel, you printed a guest column in which Ibrahim Hooper, a CAIR spokesperson, blasphemed all of Christianity and Jesus Himself.

article No middle ground between Islam, Christianity

    Saturday, December 22, 2012 12:00 am

In reference to your Religion page column by Ibrahim Hooper, "Muslim leader: Jesus and Muhammad are brothers" — with all due respect and no denigration intended, these words are vanity and the work of errors.

  14. article Our servicemen and women deserve a new president

    Wednesday, October 31, 2012 12:00 am

The United States, a nation of shame — in my opinion. I can't imagine the anxiety of holding off a numerically superior force and making repeated pleas for help and being denied —all of these denials for support can only come from our Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama.

  15. article President Obama lied about Benghazi

    Tuesday, October 30, 2012 12:00 am

Again, today, I looked for a headline in the News-Sentinel saying "Obama lied for more than two weeks." I can't believe that our president can ignore and lie about the terrorist attack on Benghazi, Libya, and you and many other "newspapers" wouldn't print the story.

article Halloween costumes mocking culture a bad idea

    Friday, October 26, 2012 8:00 am

Dear Straight Talk: I’m in college and my very nice roommates are talking about dressing up as Muslims for Halloween. One, who is buff, is even talking about putting on blackface and going as Muhammad Ali. I think both the blackface and dressing in turbans are bad ideas. They say I’m being too “politically correct.” What do you think? It’s so easy for girls to just wear a sexy outfit, but much harder for guys to come up with a creative costume. Any suggestions? Also, do I go out with them dressed this way? They are my best friends here. — Sam, Boston

  17. article Obama would make a better Indonesian president

    Saturday, October 20, 2012 12:00 am

Is it not time to get over the past obsession with George W. Bush? The left wing of our country has created a bogeyman and uses it to motivate liberal voters.

  18. article Our government is coddling ideologues

    Saturday, October 20, 2012 12:00 am

This is beyond outrage, it is infuriating. My parents were diplomats in Iran for many years. They both spoke fluent Farsi and had many Iranian friends. Jimmy Carter undermined their efforts and now we have the ayatollahs.

  19. article Every politician should be held equally accountable

    Saturday, October 20, 2012 12:00 am

A lie is a lie. I agree with Jeff Lindenberg (Letter to the Editor, The Record, Sept. 20) regarding Paul Ryan's lie about his marathon time, but I would like to ask Mr. Lindenberg, if he is so adamant about holding Paul Ryan to his "lie," is he using the same standards with President Obama by holding him to all his lies, the most egregious one being the president's denial of the recent terrorist attacks on 9/11 in Egypt and Libya?

  21. article Of jazz, gaffes and a solemn remembrance

    Tuesday, October 2, 2012 12:00 am

I know — it's been almost a month since the last column, but a variety of things have intervened and I have not pushed myself as much as usual — it doesn't pay. But here we are — and it's October! Going outside, you wouldn't know it; July and August all over again. The cats and I would just as lief do nothing! But here's a thought:

  22. article It will take more than four years to fix our nation

    Tuesday, October 2, 2012 12:00 am

I've read factless letters sent into this paper warning against a worldwide takeover by the United Nations, of "birthers" insisting that President Obama is not an American citizen and that he's really a Muslim, that undocumented immigrants are overrunning the country and that a conspiracy exists in covering up the "true" nature of the 9/11 tragedy.

  23. article Shariah law cannot exist alongside the United States Constitution

    Tuesday, September 25, 2012 12:00 am

Italian author Oriana Fallaci, who died in 2006, wrote about the "Islamization" of Europe and commented, "In each one of our cities is a second city, a state within the state, a government within the government; a Muslim city, a city ruled by the Quran."

  24. article Obama does not solve his problems, he hides them

    Tuesday, September 18, 2012 12:00 am

CIA director Leon Panetta oversaw the U.S. military operation that led to Osama bin Laden's death. Obama stopped the mission twice with phony excuses about the weather.
