Lodi police investigated a flurry of car thefts on Wednesday, but almost all of them came to a happy ending.
In the 24 hours between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 4 p.m. Wednesday, six vehicles were reported stolen in Lodi, said Sgt. Mike Oden. As of Wednesday afternoon, five had been recovered through the joint efforts of the Lodi Police Department and the Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force.
Lodi officers were able to locate two cars, and called in Delta RATT on Wednesday morning to continue the investigations.

Two men were arrested Wednesday after running out on their bill at a Mexican restaurant, said Sgt. Mike Oden of the Lodi Police Department. They were snagged by members of an auto theft task force patrolling the area.

Lodi police officers last weekend recovered five stolen vehicles during one graveyard shift.
Four of the five were Hondas, and officers are warning Honda owners to be extra cautious.
With the current rash of Honda thefts, especially models from the late 1990s, Lt. Chris Jacobson suggested that drivers find a way to secure their cars. People should park them in garages, buy Club anti-theft devices for the steering wheels, install alarms or take other safety precautions.

Police said a man led them on a foot chase and even attempted to fight officers after he was found to be in possession of a stolen vehicle on Monday afternoon.
Officers for the Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force were doing surveillance on a stolen 1991 Honda Accord on Monday around 1:30 p.m. when they noticed Lodi resident Michael Lee get into the vehicle, said Detective Paul Blandford of the Lodi Police Department.
Lee, who police said has a history of car thefts, began driving off while Lodi police and Delta RATT officers followed him, Blandford said.

For the first time, a Lodi citizen was honored for wearing her
seatbelt at the Lodi Police Department’s yearly awards.
Lodi resident Marcella Wheat was honored along with seven
officers, staff members and volunteers. Cpl. Sierra Brucia was also
promoted to the sergeant position, and his four-year-old son Kellen
pinned the badge on his uniform.
