When Harney Lane winery owner Jorja Lorner’s
great-great-grandfather cultivated the family’s first vineyard,
Harney Lane was still a dirt road dotted with the occasional horse
and buggy. He didn’t know that decades later, Lodi would be the
region’s wine center and his family would continue his passion for
agriculture, wine and sharing it with the community. Now, the
family still lives on Harney Lane, where he planted great Theodore
pine trees that now tower in the front garden of the tasting

Anaheim has Disneyland. Nevada has Burning Man. And Lodi? It has
the Spring Wine Show.
During the annual event, the Ole Mettler Pavilion at the Grape
Festival Grounds turns into a happy place for the wine-loving crowd
as more than 40 wineries share their artful bottled creations,
olive oil companies offer tastings and restaurants prepare hors
d’oeuvres that pair with the weekend’s selections.
Next weekend’s show kicks of at the Grape Festival grounds and
runs March 25 and 26. The event is also packed with live music,
prizes, a basket giveaway with more than 100 bottles of wine and
chances to meet the wine makers.

A team of 66 judges showered Lodi vintners with awards at a
national showcase earlier this month. More than 5,000 wines from
across the country were entered at the 2011 San Francisco Chronicle
Wine Competition and a total of 133 Lodi wines came away with
medals. The trophy cache is the region’s best showing in the
26-year history of the competition. But one competition official
said Lodi’s success in the event is becoming an annual trend.
