Thank you to the 45-plus representatives and business owners who attended our Health Care Reform seminar last week at Oak Ridge Winery. My grandfather, Max, would be very proud that the small agency he started 66 years ago has blossomed, and is still serving and helping the Lodi community.

The greatest find of the day was these four Lodi News-Sentinel pint glasses with famous headlines. Obviously, they are priceless. Publisher Marty Weybret explained that the newspaper created these glasses in the late 1980s as Christmas gifts for its employees. There were four different options, so the couple had the complete set.

I was disappointed in your failure to publish a paper Monday. I think it showed poor business acumen on your part.

In the past week, I have been confronted by at least three people a day berating me about the fact this column has not appeared in the News-Sentinel of late. It isn't funny, but I have been telling people that I am being published only on Mondays. They nod and walk on. The paper isn't published that day during the week as an austerity matter, and it will go back to normal as soon as everything else does.

Marty Weybret, left, and Dr. Tom Shock of Lodi spent three great days pedaling from Carmel to Paso Robles July 13-15. We camped the first night at Fernwood Resort in Big Sur, which was full of families enjoying the redwoods and the nearby beaches. The second night we spent with Marty's friends Patty & Mike Griffin of Cambria. Auto traffic was on Highway 1 was steady but polite. This photo was taken before heading out from Cambria for a leisurely climb on Highway 46 to Paso Robles, we picked up a car we'd left there Friday and drove back to Carmel.
