Galt teacher Mandy Garner has been chosen as California's star FFA adviser after besting four peers in a final interview over the weekend. The Liberty Ranch High School ag department chairwoman's honor was announced at the state convention in Fresno on Sunday.

The girl with the electric smile lost her battle with ovarian
cancer two days before what would have been her first day as a
senior at Liberty Ranch High School. Taylor Steele had already been
elected student body president.
Third-grade students from Marengo Ranch Elementary School make gardens-in-a-glove during the first California agriculture fair at Liberty Ranch High School in Galt on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010. Agriculture students at the two-year-old high school developed and coordinated the fair to build interest in elementary school students who will eventually attend the Liberty Ranch. Mandy Garner, director of the agriculture department, hopes to expand the fair next year to include third-grade students from all Galt elementary schools that feed into Liberty Ranch.
