The city of Lodi recently inked new contracts with eight of its nine labor unions, and for the first time created a two-tier pension system for public safety employees.
New hires for police officers and firefighters will now have a pension formula of 3 percent at 55 based on the average of the three highest years of pay. Currently, public safety employees use a 3 percent at 50 formula based on the highest single year of pay.

Representatives from five Lodi city employee groups accused city
negotiators on Wednesday of bargaining in bad faith by adding what
they termed some "non-economic" items.

The city of Lodi is in the middle of negotiations with nine of
its 10 bargaining groups to reach new contracts before they expire
on Dec. 31.
The city planned for all of the contracts to come due at the
same time, city spokesman Jeff Hood said. The International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is the only union not negotiating
because their contract does not end until 2013.

Lodi firefighters are raising funds for the Breast Cancer
Research Foundation by hosting two fundraising nights at Chili’s
Restaurant and selling T-shirts at the fire station.
Lodi Professional Firefighters Association President Brad Doell
accepts a proclamation from Mayor Bob Johnson at the Lodi City
Council meeting on Wednesday. The council recognized the
firefighters efforts to raise money for breast cancer research.

For the first time in Lodi's history, the city is asking all of
its employees to pay into their pensions to help offset steep
increases in retirement costs.
Earlier this month, Lodi's top managers agreed to pay 7 percent
of their pension costs, which is the maximum allowed by the
