After six years as president of the Lodi Muslim Mosque, Mohammad
Shoaib has turned over the reigns to Khan Afsar, a newcomer to the
mosque board. Afsar took over as president on Aug. 1.

latest action, a group of disgruntled members who are angry at the
current mosque leadership served a petition demanding mosque
president Mohammed Shoaib hold elections.

Khan Afsar, president of the Lodi Muslim Mosque, said that
Muslims in Lodi began fasting at 4:46 a.m. on Thursday for Ramadan.
Muslims could begin eating and drinking at 8:08 p.m. that day,
though the time each day will change slightly due to the moon’s
position, Afsar said.

A San Joaquin County judge has ruled to leave the Lodi Muslim
Mosque in the hands of its current leaders, ending a months-long
lawsuit between two groups vying for control of the city's only
mosque.

There are black marker "X"s drawn on the faces of the portraits
of two Muslim men on my living room wall. One is the 9/11 suicide
bomber Mohammed Atta. The other is of a person who cannot take his
wife on a visit to a Muslim country because she would be required
to wear the full-covering garment required of the wife of a Muslim
man.
