Got eggs? Back in March, with little fanfare and public input, changes to sections of the city’s zoning code were made. In the process, a long-standing provision allowing homeowners to keep up to three egg-laying backyard hens was removed.

Although the crime rate has decreased in our state and nation, property crime appears to be increasing. The criminals who do crime in other cities appear to be expanding their base of operations and are committing crimes in our city.

Dear Jennifer: I was surprised to read some time ago that Lodi was looking to limit alcohol at firehouses. Granted, it was the city of the same name in New Jersey, but I couldn't help wonder whether there was a smilar ban in Lodi, Calif. Do you know whether firefighters here are allowed to drink alcohol? I mean, technically they're on the job.

The increasing cost of public safety personnel and less money in Lodi’s general fund due to less tax revenue means the city is on its way to only paying for police and fire services out of the general fund. Every other department will have to find a way to pay for itself, City Manager Rad Bartlam confirmed, while public safety looks for more ways to cut costs.
