The annual Ag Venture for the Stockton, Lodi and Linden third graders was held at the Grape Festival in Lodi. Approximately 3600 children attended.

A congressman who is hoping to become the next House Agriculture Committee chairman came to San Joaquin County on Wednesday. Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, who is also a certified public accountant, came to attend a fundraiser and learn more about agricultural issues specific to California.

Twenty-five days into excavation efforts on agricultural property in Linden, FBI personnel and technical experts have dug to a depth of approximately 65 feet below grade within the old well site.

The FBI continues excavation work at a well on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Linden, where they are searching for the remains of more victims of convicted killers Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog. Officials say progress has been slow but the collaborative team has now reached a depth of approximately 40 feet below grade within the well. Efforts to excavate and sift fill dirt from within the well are proceeding with a gain of approximately 5 to 7 feet each day. The team has been working since Jan. 7 at the site.

FBI personnel and technical experts continued to excavate an old well in the Linden area Monday to potentially recover long-missing victims of convicted murderer Wesley Shermantine Jr., and his deceased partner in crime, Loren Herzog. Thus far, no human remains have been discovered, according to FBI spokeswoman Gina B. Swankie.
Progress has been slow, but investigators have reached about 40 feet below grade within the well, Swankie said.

Mackenzie Goold, graduate from Linden High School, now attending San Jose State, is teaching the the third graders about the beef calf, named Orphan Fred. They had the opportunity to brush and hug on this little orphan calf.
