Reliving the glory days of high school football is something to cherish. And even more so — reliving a glorious season. Fifty years after their remarkable run, the 1963 Lodi Flames will be recognized during a ceremony prior to the Lodi-Stagg football game at the newly renovated Grape Bowl on Sept. 20.

I would like to start by congratulating the Lodi High Football
team and coaches for an awesome season so far. These players and
coaches have worked very hard this year to get to the playoffs.
They are all out there putting everything they have into the sport.
They have overcome having to take their team (road warriors) out of
town even for home games.

Despite massive changes to the town’s population and
agricultural makeup over the decades, Lodi High School football
consistently remains a proud tradition. Even though it’s not the
only high school or sports program in town, Lodi High’s football
team has a proud history today’s players are adding to.

The Lodi Boys and Girls Club is accepting nominations for its
2010 Lodi Community Hall of Fame. When choosing a local citizen for
the Hall of Fame, judges consider the nominee's success, leadership
and dedication in such areas as education, business, health care,
athletics, arts, agriculture, government and community service.

John F. Blakely, a Lodi native, Class of 1900 high school
valedictorian and former letter carrier, was the head of Lodi's
early city government for 31 years. He did so much to shape the
community that he was often referred to as "Mr. Lodi."
