Soroptimist International of Lodi and Lodi Sunrise recently held an awards night honoring outstanding women and girls. Soroptimist International is a volunteer organization of professional and business women who contribute their time and financial support to community projects benefitting women and girls. SI Lodi recently celebrated 68 years in Lodi.

As a high school recruit, Pete Murdaca was struck by Jim Harbaugh's competitive drive and acute attention to detail.
As a freshman quarterback at Nevada-Reno, he marveled at Colin Kaepernick's unshakable confidence and composure in pressure situations.
So Murdaca, a Lodi native and former St. Mary's standout, is not surprised to see the two faces of the San Francisco 49ers performing in football's biggest game.

Past president and long-time member Pat Drouin has been selected
as the 2011 AAUW funds fellowship named gift honoree by Lodi
American Association of University Women for her many contributions
to the group’s programs and goals. This is the second time she has
been selected for this award, having previously received it in

Lodi City Council candidates turned in their campaign statements
recently showing the final financing tally for November’s

Assemblywoman Alyson Huber, D-El Dorado Hills, who recently was
re-elected to California’s 10th Assembly District, raised
$1,296,575 during the campaign filing period that ended Oct. 27.
Huber’s totals overshadowed her opponent, former Lodi mayor Jack
Sieglock, who raised $130,675 during the same period.

On the surface, it didn't seem like there was much to give

homes at a rate not seen since the Great Depression and the state
legislature again refused to pass a budget on time.

Although the Center for Disease Control recently reported
obesity rates in the country have leveled off, 34 percent of adults
and 17 percent of children are still overweight. As a result,
health-conscious diners are on the prowl looking for more sensible
meals. California residents are also receiving help from state's
government, whether they are actively dieting or not. On Jan. 1, it
became illegal for restaurants in California to serve items cooked
in hydrogenated oils, a common source of trans fats.
