This year's crop of high school grads was more persistent,
inspirational, clever and downright interesting than most.

Last year it was the possible rain; this year, the definite
Red and white robes rustled, balloons bounced and pages on the
podium fluttered wildly Friday as 432 Lodi High School graduates
accepted their diplomas at the Grape Bowl.
At the beginning of the 90-minute ceremony, associated student
body president Anna Adams greeted the hundreds of well-wishers and
her peers with a poem she penned.
“We’re finally here, Class of 2011,” she said.

After returning from a broken back to play his senior year, Lodi
High School golfer Garrett Baffoni was named as the team’s most
inspirational player in awards voted on by the Flames coaching

Lodi High School golfer Cole Range made a remarkable run over
the final two holes only to be denied a Sac-Joaquin Section Masters
berth by one shot on Monday at the Division I South tournament in
Range closed out his round with an eagle and a birdie to post an
81 at the par-73 Pheasant Run Golf Club. It appeared that his late
charge would be good enough to capture one of six individual
qualifying spots for Masters, but a late 80 kept him from moving

With Tokay and West tied for second place in the Tri-City
Athletic League standings, it all came down to which team shot
lower at Tuesday’s TCAL boys golf tournament at Oakmoore Golf

While the Lodi Flames fell one place short of advancing as a
team to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I-South boys golf
tournament, four golfers will still be representing Lodi in the
high school golf postseason.

With a week left in the regular season, the Lodi High and Tokay
High boys golf teams are making a strong playoff push.
Both teams are tied for second place in their respective
leagues, and if they can both win out their remaining league
contests and play well at their league tournaments, the Flames and
Tigers could both be sending full squads to the postseason.

Cole Range and Cameron Spring each shot a 42 to lead the Lodi
Flames to a 225-245 win over the Bear Creek Bruins in varsity boys
golf at the Woodbridge Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.

Lodi’s Cole Range hit a 40 and Garrett Baffoni shot a 41, but it
wasn’t enough as the Flames lost 210-217 to the Lincoln Trojans in
their San Joaquin Athletic Association match at Brookside Country
