Hello, Lodi! I graduated from Needham Elementary School (then
called a Grammar School) in the spring of 1943. World War II was
going "hot and heavy" and the final results were still very much in
doubt. My family's house was at 905 S. Church St., and that was
about at the south end of the town. Grape vineyards were between
that location and Needham School.

For father and son Ivan and Kerry Suess, real estate is in their
blood. Ivan's grandfather was a Realtor in Lodi years ago. After
some time spent selling RCA Victor appliances for retail and
wholesale, Ivan opened Ivan's Clothing Store in Lodi. The store
remained in business for more than 20 years, and Ivan Suess later
became a partner in the real estate firm Schaffer, Suess and Boyd,

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year from the Lodi
Association of Realtors. My name is Kerry Suess and in a few days I
will be installed as the President of LAR for 2011. Melanie Pennino
did a terrific job as President in 2010 and yet was more than happy
to turn the reigns over to me. Thanks Mel for the big shoes to
fill. The Installation Banquet will be held at the Stockton Country
Club Jan. 5. For your information, the Lodi Association of Realtors
has more than half of its membership from Stockton and Modesto. LAR
will be celebrating 90 years of service to its members in 2011.

I can’t believe that August is at an end and September is
beginning, but the squirrels and the trees believe it. The peanuts
in the feeder are diminishing rapidly, and the leaves on the
Chinese pistache are turning color. Acorns from the pin oak in back
rat-a-tat-tat on the back porch overhang and add to the peanut
shells near the feeder. Trees and squirrels can be messy!
