St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 S. Pleasant Ave., Lodi: Christmas Eve at 5 p.m. is geared toward children. The Christmas story is told through their eyes; 7 p.m., “Silent Night” service geared toward gentle, reflective worship with candles — lots of carols, but a respite from the noise of the season; 11 p.m., a traditional candlelight service with brass, organ and choirs. Christmas Day service at 9:30 a.m.

What began as a dream of former Lodi Police Officer Dennis Lewis to help children one Christmas became a reality when Lodi Adopt-A-Child was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1989. The organization provides gifts to children each Christmas as well as year-round aid to Lodi's less-fortunate children.

Crime Prevention Coordinator Theodore James “TJ” Guidotti says that the crime rate in Galt is 56 percent lower today than in recent years. Furthermore, the area surrounding Meadowview Park in southwest Galt — once known for its violence, drugs and gang activity — is one of the safest areas of Galt, Guidotti said.

A graveside service for Susan A. Webb Sorgdrager, 42, formerly of Lodi, who died June 1, will be held at 10 a.m. today at Knights Landing Cemetery in Knights Landing. A celebration of her life will follow at the knights Landing Community Center, 7th and Oak streets, Knights Landing.
