The tense scramble while the rest of the kids jockey for the best spot behind a tree or in a shed. That momentary panic when the entire yard seems still and silent. The triumph of spying a shoelace or ballcap that gives the game away.

When Brandon Sywassink arrives at a vineyard and hops out of his truck, the first tool he reaches for isn't a pair of pruning shears or work gloves. Sywassink boots up his iPad and opens an app called LandView to see what tasks are on the list for this particular plot of land. This time of year, that might include mowing between each row, tying up vines or repairing wires.

Many of those caregivers are looking after older parents who don’t live with them. And while helping aging parents with everything from financial management to health care decisions is difficult enough, the challenges grow if the parent lives alone, either close by or in another state.
