    Tasting Lodi’s wines

Randy Caparoso, left, and Brad Alderson sample wines at the Lodi Wine & Visitors Center on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011. Caparoso and Alderson are part of a four-member panel that help select vintages for the center’s quarterly wine club. The wines are given to the commission by local vintners, and the panel selects the handful they like best to go into the center’s package for its wine club members. The judges don’t know what brand of wine they are drinking, and make tasting notes so winemakers can receive constructive and objective criticism, said Mark Chandler, executive director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission. Bob Lauchland and G.M. “Pooch” Pucilowski round out the panel.
