The Liberty Ranch Hawks varsity girls soccer team continued its stellar season by capturing an outright Sierra Valley Conference championship with Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over the Union Mine Diamondbacks in El Dorado. The Hawks (15-2-1, 10-1-1 SVC), who dethroned area power Vista del Lago with the win, scored all their goals in the first half and pitched a shutout after intermission to hang on.

The beautiful days of summer are here again. The sun is out, the air is fresh, the grass is green and the opportunities are endless for fun-in-the-sun birthday parties. The three summer months – June to August – rank in the top five for most American births, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. So chances are good you’ll be hosting or attending a summer birthday this year. You can go to the waterpark or visit the batting cages any day, but your child’s birthday is special.

A few of us traveled to Tracy on Tuesday for the ribbon-cutting on Legacy Fields, a massive sports complex just north of I-205 just off North Tracy Boulevard. There's little there now but a roadway, some roadside landscaping and gravel parking lots, but the grand vision is for dozens of different sports fields on 72 acres to accommodate soccer, baseball, softball and football. Eventually, the park is to consist of 166 acres of various park uses.

(BPT) - In the year 2000, Lisa Wollman, a young, vibrant woman in the prime of her life, was pregnant with her second child, and like many expectant mothers, was experiencing changes in her mood and body. However, she knew something was not quite right. Lisa started experiencing anxiety and insomnia, which had not occurred during her first pregnancy. After visiting multiple doctors, Lisa was told her symptoms would subside post-pregnancy, however several weeks after giving birth, she began experiencing other unusual symptoms, including excessive facial hair growth, acne and depression. These signs and symptoms prompted further doctor visits ultimately leading to the diagnosis of Cushing’s disease, which affects approximately one to two people per million annually.

If comments by board members are any indication, it appears that student athletes in Lodi Unified School District may only have to participate in two afterschool sports per year in order to have their second year of physical education waived as a graduation requirement.
