(BPT) - Planning and organizing a large and complex special event can quickly overwhelm a bride and groom-to-be, especially if the couple has no previous experience or training in large event organization. In addition to all the details of the invite list, the location for all activities for the big day and the special intimate details of wedding party gifts, getting to the big day without breaking the bank might seem impossible.

A true politician takes advantage of every situation to advance their career, and some are already doing so; taking guns from God-fearing people seems to them to be fair in their minds. To Washington, this seems to be the solution to all the problems of the world — remove the guns from law-abiding people. Criminals have guns, and have more rights than people living within the law.

Our nation is faced with continuous international threats, a huge debt, a growing and splintered population, unemployment, endless and costly entitlement programs and a very competitive world. These and other issues are among seven which I consider to be our greatest:

Legislators on the Democrats' side in Sacramento should take a urine test. Something is causing them to ask the governor to sign idiotic legislation — a total waste of needed money. With an approval rating of just above zero, you would think they would be trying to improve instead of proving the people right.

Remember Willie Horton? In 1986, Horton was a convicted felon serving life without parole. With his two accomplices, Horton stabbed a 17-year-old gas station attendant multiple times and stuffed his corpse into a trash can. But while incarcerated, Horton received a "weekend pass" as part of a furlough program overseen by then-Massachusetts Governor and future Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis.

Many headlines about the Supreme Court decision on Arizona S.B. 1070 indicate that the justices cut the bill back to its bare bones. In June 2010, Arizona passed legislation that allows law enforcement officers to inquire about immigration status when an individual is lawfully detained and suspected to be illegally present. But this week's news stories mislead. The law's key provision, proof of status, remains.

Americans who think that the Constitution is the nation's highest law got a rude awakening last week. As it turns out, an even loftier lawmaking level governs the land: President Barack Obama's personal opinion. Laws Obama doesn't like, like those that enforce immigration, he ignores.

The Obama administration has once again laid out the welcome mat
for illegal aliens. Last week's White House announcement that
aliens will have a "public advocate" is the latest in a long series
of White House actions to comfort aliens. In June, the Department
of Homeland Security began the unconstitutional process of
pardoning 300,000 deportable aliens. Now, those who remain and have
not yet been pardoned have an official, taxpayer-funded, go-to
administration advocate.
