Galt teachers may soon be trained to use and recognize different types of guns in a class sponsored by the Galt Police Department.
The voluntary gun safety and awareness course is in response to December's deadly Newtown, Conn., school shooting, according to Superintendent Karen Schauer of the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District.
The idea came from Galt Police Chief William Bowen, she said.

Do we need to add more gun control laws? What good will more gun control laws do if they are not enforced? I have had my dad's .45 automatic pistol in my possession for the past 40 years, and I have never killed anyone with it. I haven't even fired it. I will never fire it unless someone tries entering my house uninvited, and then it may be put to use as it was intended.

Police stopped and arrested a convicted felon with a loaded gun early Tuesday morning.
Officers approached a parked car at a gas station at the corner of Lockeford and Church streets a little after midnight Tuesday, Lodi police Sgt. David Griffin said. It matched the description of a vehicle that was driven by a person who had brandished a firearm earlier that evening, he said.

This was not meant as a show of disrespect to the victims, but as recognition that regardless of its now-infamous status, Christopher Nolan’s concluding Batman film deserved to be discussed on its own merits, as a movie — not as the alleged trigger that set off a madman’s rampage.

Two men are in custody at San Joaquin County jail after
allegedly having a gun in a Lodi bar. Mario Estevan Mercado, 30,
and Mario Alberto Medina Munguia Jr., 24, are being held in San
Joaquin County jail after being apprehended by the Lodi Police
Department early Saturday morning on the 100 block of West Turner
Road, police said.
