Like cats, the Clements-Lockeford Chamber of Commerce seems to have nine lives. The business organization was rescued from the dead in 2006 when Timothy Fowler became its president and Cynthia Haynes its chief executive officer.

It appears that California’s redistricting commissioners will
get a earful on Friday night about proposed legislative boundaries
that would link Lodi with Solano County in the state Assembly and
The California Citizens Redistricting Commission will conduct a
public hearing from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at San Joaquin Delta College
in Stockton. For those who cannot make it Friday, hearings will be
held on Saturday in San Jose and Tuesday in Sacramento.

Jeanne Vetter began her teaching career at Clements Elementary
School alongside Highway 88 more than 50 years ago — before it ever
joined Lodi Unified School District.
The small schoolhouse has been a part of the community for more
than twice that length of time, but at the end of this school year,
its doors will be forever closed.
The Lodi school board voted 6-0 Tuesday to shutter the tiny
rural campus and move its 60 students to Lockeford School. That
campus, roughly four miles away, has been upgraded with
kindergarten classrooms and a new playground.

The street lights in downtown Lockeford will remain on after
all. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. agreed Thursday to continue
providing electrical power to nine street lamps on Highway 88 at
its own expense until Oct. 1. Then a group of Highway 88 merchants
will foot the bill for at least a year, according to Lockeford
Municipal Advisory Council chairwoman Lani Eklund.
