In the hotly contested Woodbridge Sanitary District race, challengers Mary Avanti and Charles Stocker defeated long-time incumbent Harold Rohrbach and appointed incumbent Willie Nelson. The district provides sewer service and maintains a wastewater plant for Woodbridge residents and businesses.

We read with great interest the front-page article by Ross Farrow in the Sept. 27 Lodi News-Sentinel with the title, "Grand Jury praises Woodbridge sewer district for improvements." As Woodbridge residents, we are happy to see numerous improvements made as demanded by the grand jury.

Several people took advantage of the extended filing deadline this week to run for local school, water and fire district boards. Several of the filings took place on Wednesday, the deadline in districts in where an incumbent decided not to seek re-election.

Although the Lodi and Galt city councils share the greatest limelight among local races in the November election, there are several lower profile seats on various water and fire boards that remain up for grabs.
The deadline to file for local boards and councils expired last Friday — that is, unless an incumbent didn't file for re-election. In that case, the filing deadline is extended until 5 p.m. Wednesday, and incumbents are ineligible to file for another term.

The 2010-11 San Joaquin County Grand Jury released its report on
the Woodbridge Sanitary District on June 8, and was subsequently
covered by both the Lodi News-Sentinel and Stockton Record. Channel
13 KOVR also did a segment entitled “On the Money” on July 12. The
phrase “Something Smells in Woodbridge” was created by the Channel
13 producer, Mike Luery, to lead off the segment.
