The man who has led an effort to spread Christian influence in
public schools and city government for 25 years is calling it a
Ken Owen, 74, said that God told him last year it's time to
retire as president of Christian Community Concerns, an
organization that has fought such efforts as gay marriage, adult
bookstores in Lodi and the opening of the city's cardroom.

Ken Owen, who spent 25 years trying to add a Christian influence to local government and public schools, died Wednesday. He was 76.

Lodi Unified School District's new K12 Virtual Academy quietly
opened last Monday alongside its brick-and-mortar counterparts.
The online program is considered a different program delivery,
but is still part of the district. It runs on the same schedule as
the rest of Independence School.
Currently, there are 80 students in the new online program,
according to Principal Carol Owens.

The Lodi Elks Lodge No. 1900 had a drug awareness booth at the Lodi Street Faire on Oct. 7. The Elk volunteers were able to get more than 180 children’s signatures to commit to remain drug-free. They also passed out 200 bags full of goodies with coloring books, all tied with a “Drugs don’t fly with Elks” logo balloon.

Ronald Eugene "Ron" Mehlhaff, 64, of Stockton and formerly of
Lodi, died Nov. 24 in Stockton following a brief illness. He was
born Oct. 29, 1941, in Lodi, where he was raised and graduated from
Lodi High School in 1959.

They have requested a meeting with the teacher’s union, which is
set for Friday.
On Sept. 1, trustee Michael Abdallah arrived unannounced at
