Two scholarships were presented by Suzanne Benbrook in the absence of Carol Marvel, scholarship chairman, of the Lodi Garden Club. They went to Jordan Sparrowk of Lodi High School and Ut Huynh of Bear Creek High School. Both have been active beyond their school classrooms.

Not only do Elliot Christian's Emily Buhrkuhl and Lodi High's Luke Simon fully live up to the name of student-athlete with successful prep athletic careers and off-the-chart GPAs, they also are making an impact as volunteers in the community.

When Lodi High track standout Kayla Carter first started running the 100-meter hurdles last season, she spent more time wiping blood off of her knees and prying rocks from her teeth than breaking the tape at the finish line.

Ten people armed with chainsaws came hacking into the Woodbridge Wilderness Area on Monday morning to cut down leaves and large branches that came in their way.

Sierra MacLeod recently learned she is one of only 10 students in Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s Northern and Central California service area to receive a $30,000 college scholarship. There were more than 8,000 applicants.
