Roy Yates leases property on four ranches, where he takes care of 105 cows and several calves. Not only that, but he also makes business decisions, prepares paperwork and watches the livestock market so he can decide when to sell his cattle.

Kassandra McIntyre, left, and Alexa Cabral are recipients of a $500 scholarship awarded by the Lodi Business and Professional Women. They were announced on Aug. 21 at a summer dinner meeting. McIntyre is a senior at Azusa Pacific University, majoring in psychology. Cabral is a student at California State Polytechnic University, majoring in dairy science.

Sarah Cassese was named to the dean's list for the 2009 year at
the University of the Pacific. Students selected for the dean's
list must have a 3.5 grade-point average or better. Cassese is a
2007 graduate of Tokay High School. She is the daughter of Karen
Cassese, of Lodi.

Galt High School seniors Dillon Szyper and Anthony Toledo’s
joint project, “Reducing Gaseous Emissions from Dairy Cattle
Excretia,” won first place in the Senior Biological Sciences
division of the Sacramento regional competition of the Intel
International Science & Engineering Fair on Saturday at
Rosemont High School.

Amy Perkins, of Lodi, recently graduated with a
master’s degree in arts education with a specialization in language
arts and reading. She also completed a reading specialist
credential. She is a 2003 graduate of Lodi High School and is the
daughter of Jim and Karen Perkins, of Lodi.

Delanie Reynolds, 11, was recently promoted from Reese
Elementary School with perfect attendance since kindergarten. She
says her parents helped give her the incentive to go to school
every day and accomplish more of her goals. She hopes to keep her
perfect attendance all the way through high school. She is the
daughter of Curtis and Ronda Reynolds, of Lodi.
