Liberty Ranch High School Principal Brian Deis has accepted a job at a school district in Southern California and will be leaving his position in Galt next month. He has worked in the Galt Joint Union High School District since 1993 when he took a part-time summer teaching job.

Trustees for the Galt Joint Union High School District have approved spending money on a contract that grants Liberty Ranch High School’s request to hold its Class of 2014 graduation at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento.

The Galt Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees will decide tonight if Liberty Ranch High School holds its graduation ceremony in Sacramento for the third year in a row. If approved, the $4,225 expense for the June 6 ceremony at Memorial Auditorium would come from lottery funds.

Officials at Galt High School have been directed to improve technology and try to boost math results. Meanwhile, Lodi High School is being asked to increase academic opportunities for its Latino students, who constituted about a third of the student body in 2010.

The Galt Joint Union School District Board of Trustees last Thursday agreed to allow Liberty Ranch High School to switch graduation dates with Estrellita High School, thus clearing the way for Liberty Ranch to hold its ceremony on June 5 at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento.

McKayla Barton relies on sports drinks on a daily basis.
“The day I don’t get my Powerade, I don’t run as fast,” said Barton, 15. On Tuesday a blue Powerade replaced her lunch. She says it gives her an energy boost to make it through the day at Tokay High School without crashing.
But if a new assembly bill moves forward, Barton will have to look for a new source of energy. Assembly member Das Williams, D-Santa Barbara, introduced legislation last week to ban the sale of sugary sports drinks at middle and high school campuses during school hours.

Galt Joint Union High School District trustees unanimously
approved spending close to $13,000 on Tuesday to bring a notable
speaker to the two traditional high school campuses at the end of
Stu Cabe, of Breaking Down the Walls, will also provide
workshops for teachers and student leaders to create a more
accepting campus community. Among the issues he will address are
bullying, drugs and suicide, according to Liberty Ranch High School
principal Brian Deis.

Galt Joint Union High School District administrators want to
create campuses without cliques, where everyone can get along. To
this end, they will ask for approval at tonight’s meeting to spend
$12,576 to host a motivational speaker at both high schools at the
end of the month.
The team-building effort is partly in response to a spike in
fights at Galt High School this school year and administrators’
desire to create a positive campus atmosphere there.

see their media center shelves stocked with books. Now that they’re
finally there, they can’t check them out due to a lack of security
The Galt Joint Union High School District is in the process of
hiring a part-time library clerk to oversee the process, but has
directed current funding be used to bring back teachers first,
according to Superintendent Daisy Lee.
