Lodi Flames head softball coach Michelle Guardado says her team has more than a few new faces and calls her club a work in progress this season.
But the Lady Flames have a core of five seniors returning, starting with three-time San Joaquin Athletic Association Most Valuable Player Kortney Solis, a four-year starter who has played both catcher and shortstop.
Solis terrorized opposing pitchers last season, hitting .482 with 23 RBIs, 22 runs scored, 13 doubles and two triples. She also walked 13 times.

Tokay High School’s Kristen Vlavianos had a walk and a stolen
base to help lead the South squad to a 2-0 victory over the North
softball team in the All-Star Baseball/Softball Classic on Friday
at the University of the Pacific.

Division of the NorCal Tournament this past weekend in Tracy.

Gabby Magana of the Lodi Flames shut down the Tracy Bulldogs
with her arm.
With her bat, she helped the Flames rally back throughout their
San Joaquin Athletic Association softball showdown at Tracy and was
a key factor in a four-run 10th inning as Lodi completed an
improbable comeback with an 8-4 victory on Wednesday.

It’s a whole new ball game for San Joaquin Athletic Association
Instead of shut-down pitchers dominating games and low-scoring
affairs being the norm, Lodi High head coach Michelle Guardado
expects slugfests with lots of hits this season.
That was certainly the case when Lodi opened SJAA play on
Wednesday as Tracy came to town and beat the Flames 11-7. Lodi, a
team that has struggled the past few years at the plate and relied
on the pitching of Tori Shepard to help it be a perennial playoff
contender, out-hit the Bulldogs 13-11. Lapses on defense, including
four errors, allowed the Bulldogs to score seven unearned runs.
Tracy also drew eight walks to help its cause.

Tokay High and Lodi High both split their two games playing in
the rescheduled Rivals Unite to Fight Breast Cancer tournament on
Friday in Morada. The Tigers beat Chavez 8-4 and lost 12-6 to Bear
Creek. The Flames beat Edison 6-0 and lost to St. Mary’s 6-0.

The Rivals Unite to Fight Breast Cancer Tournament, a three-day
event, was played on Thursday, but all games on Friday and Saturday
were postponed because of rain. A makeup date for the tournament,
which Tokay and Lodi High are playing in, has not been set yet.

Let the defense begin. The Lodi Extreme 16 and under softball
team - the 2008 Babe Ruth World Series Champions - is heading back
to the World Series again this year. And this time, it won't be the
only squad representing Lodi.
