Catherine Brown lives in a Lodi apartment, and is dedicated to water conservation.
In recent years, she has purchased a low-flow toilet and a front-loading washing machine to reduce her water use. She keeps an eye out for neighboring properties who run too much water, or have leaky sprinkler heads.
But living in an apartment means sharing a water main with dozens of neighbors. The requirement to install water meters means sharing costs with those same neighbors.

The Lodi City Council approved a resolution last week to increase the salaries for four positions at Lodi Electric Utility. City officials hope the move will entice more applicants with the right qualifications to consider working in Lodi.
Four jobs — including the electric operations superintendent, the manager of engineering and operations, rates and resources engineer and the senior power engineer — will receive a 15 percent raise.
The electric utility director will receive a 5 percent raise to $162,747 to keep an appropriate salary separation, said Ayers.

I'm a native Californian and thus a seemingly obvious 49ers booster. But once in my life the 49ers, named after the 1849 prospectors who mined Northern California, were the team I loved to hate.
