McKayla Barton relies on sports drinks on a daily basis.
“The day I don’t get my Powerade, I don’t run as fast,” said Barton, 15. On Tuesday a blue Powerade replaced her lunch. She says it gives her an energy boost to make it through the day at Tokay High School without crashing.
But if a new assembly bill moves forward, Barton will have to look for a new source of energy. Assembly member Das Williams, D-Santa Barbara, introduced legislation last week to ban the sale of sugary sports drinks at middle and high school campuses during school hours.

Mitch McConnell was serious when he said that his primary goal
after President Obama was elected was to make him a one-term
president. To achieve this goal, he has encouraged Republicans to
block every single proposition for improving the economy that Obama
has offered to Congress by playing the filibuster card. They have

For the second time in three years, Lodi has begun a search for
a new police chief. City Manager Rad Bartlam announced Friday that
the recruitment process for a new top cop in the department has
started, and the city is getting some outside help. Headhunting
firm Bob Murray & Associates will handle the recruitment
process, taking all applications and contacting prospective chiefs
from now until March 18.

Someone fired a gunshot through the side window of a residence,
