Along Willie Mays Plaza, hundreds of aspiring music stars waited their turn. Some had camped out all night, most others arriving by 3 o’clock in the morning to pursue their “American Idol” dream. Tokay High School’s Megan Burton got in line just after 4 a.m., this past Monday — the day after a softball tournament — with her grandmother and sister, freezing in the San Francisco “summer” for a good 10 hours before the wait was over.

Major League Baseball’s Opening Day, Sunday, March 31, will feature an ESPN nationally televised game between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers. Over the last few years, the season’s opening and closing dates have become earlier and later.

As the New Year's Eve ball dropped in New York, Korynn O'Connell
and Kaitlyn Zeitvogel were just beginning New Year's Day in a time
zone eight hours away. The two Tokay High School students were
chosen as a part of the Varsity Cheer USA Cheer Team that performed
in a New Year's Day parade in London. After flying out of the
country on Dec. 26, the two along with O'Connell's mother, Diane

Jodi Douglass, of Concord, is the owner of Bombshell Betty Shop, and has more than 15 years experience in the retail industry. She is this week's featured vendor for the Certified Farmers Market in Downtown Lodi. Douglass makes vintage jewelry from unused factory products. The recycled factory products are often many years old. Her jewelry has been seen on "American Idol" and consists of vintage resin flowers with birds on antiqued brass and leather cuffs constructed from vintage leather belts and bags. Her booth is located near Scrambl'z on School Street. The farmers' market runs from 5 to 9 p.m.

Travis Vega loves his music. He doesn't just play gigs, he's a
career musician. When he's not performing throughout Lodi, Stockton
and beyond, he spends time in the studio, where the music speaks to
him. Vega is now celebrating the release of his newest album, "U,"
that is both a personal project and something for his fans.
