- Ask Russ
I am recoverying from recent hernia surgury and I’m itching to
take my boat to the Delta. Do you have any decent spots for me to
try? I usually launch at Rio Vista, driving from the Colfax area.
If I can’t find someone to go with me, (I have an 18 foot
Alumaweld) would you consider going with me and coaching?
The best area right now would probably be near Chain Island
below Shereman Lake. Sherman Lake launch would also be your best
area to put your boat in since it is only about 1 mile to chain
Island from there. I would not be able to go with you.
The water is very high and you should be very careful of large
debris floating a this time. It is also possible the U.S.
Coastguard may close the Delta to recreatiuonal boating in the next

the river arm from the mouth to Columbia Cove and mostly early in
the day You should not get your lure or bait any deeper than about
10 feet. Trollers using sidekicks and a spinner with a piece of
corn are catching limits of Kokanee easily.
In the Delta, the water is very high and could be dangerous if
you do not watch carefully for floating and partially submerged
debris. We do not have any reports this past week for any type of
fishing in the Delta.
