Delta:The best salmon reports come from anglers this past week on the Sacramento River, catching one to three fish per trip. Spinners, Kwikfish and Wiggle Warts account for most of the fish from Koket Resort upriver to Walnut Grove. Some are trolling deep, but most are trolling the top 10 feet.
Striper fishing has been best for the trollers around Rio Vista, mainly in areas of The Dairy, Decker Island and further south. The dredgers are at work along the West Bank across from Decker Island and encourage boaters to avoid the area near them. Bait fishing has shown some action, but most of the fish are small shakers, with a few up to 9 pounds.
Black bass on the Delta has improved on reaction type lures, mainly spinner baits, crank baits and top water. Look for areas with sparse tules and underwater weeds. At high tide, fish the area between the weeds and the bank, but try using a quiet landing with your lures.
Lake Camanche:We have some good reports on trout fishing, trolling the main lake in the area between Big Hat and the dam, with most anglers using spinners and nightcrawlers between 25 to 50 feet. Try top-lining in the early morning, at least for the first hour just after daybreak.
New Melones:The trout bite has been good, mainly on spinners and Needlefish-type lures. The kokanee bite is tough, even working structures for them, fisherman are not limiting like they did a month ago. We have continued good reports of large channel catfish.
Pardee:Anglers are still doing best for trout in the east side of the lake, trolling Needlefish, wobblers and nightcrawlers behind dodgers.
Kokanee are tough in this lake as well, but anglers are trolling down to 100 feet using Apexes with garlic or kokanee scented shoe peg corn, pink & white hoochies behind silver-blue or green small dodgers.
There are good reports for fishing from the boat upriver by Columbia and around the spillway using small silver/blue and silver/chartreuse Kastmasters or a sliding sinker with garlic scented Gulp or Power Bait.
